Luke 1:5-7 (NIV) states:
“In the time of Herod king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly. But they were childless because Elizabeth was not able to conceive, and they were both very old.”
Even though Zechariah and Elizabeth were righteous in God’s sight, they faced the struggle of being childless. However, they did not let their circumstances weaken their faith or love for each other. Instead, they trusted in God’s plan and timing.
Their story, along with others like Hannah and Elkanah, reminds us that with God at the centre of our lives and marriages, no obstacle is too great. Whether we are waiting for a breakthrough or a blessing, as Zechariah and Elizabeth were, the power of prayer and unwavering faith will ultimately bring God’s plan to fulfilment. Their faith eventually resulted in the miraculous birth of John the Baptist, proving that nothing is impossible with God.
Just like these faithful couples, we too can trust that God has a perfect plan, even when it seems delayed. With love, patience, and prayer, any challenge can be overcome when God is guiding our steps.
