John 6:29 NLT
[29] Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.”
This verse highlights the simplicity of the work God requires from us. It’s not about doing a million things or striving in our own strength; rather, it’s about believing in Jesus Christ, the one God sent. There is a distinction between a job and the work God calls us to. A job is something we do to make a living, but the work God refers to is the unique, divine calling He has placed on each of our lives. It’s the purpose for which He created us.
Before you were even born, God saw a need in this world—there was something that only you could fulfill. He didn’t just make you by accident or for mere survival. He saw the brokenness, the gaps, the struggles that would arise in your generation, and then He created you specifically to meet that need. You were fearfully and wonderfully made, and your life has a higher purpose than just fulfilling your personal desires, like buying a car, getting married, or sending your children to a good school. While these things are important, they pale in comparison to the greater mission God has for you.
You have been placed on this earth for such a time as this, with a unique purpose that only you can carry out. Your life is part of a greater plan in the eyes of God, a plan that transcends your individual desires and connects you to the bigger picture of His kingdom. When you begin to understand that, you realize how essential you are in fulfilling God’s purpose on this earth. You are needed.
Now, returning to the verse, Jesus reminds us that the only work God wants from us is to believe in Him—believe in Jesus Christ. This belief is not just acknowledging His existence but fully surrendering our hearts and lives to Him. Believing in Jesus means trusting in His promises, embracing His teachings, and following His guidance. It’s through this belief that we experience transformation and begin to walk in the fullness of God’s plan for our lives.
When we believe in Jesus, everything changes. We don’t just acknowledge Him as Savior, but we also align our hearts with His will, leading to obedience and faithfulness. As we believe, God equips us to fulfill the purpose He designed us for, and our lives begin to reflect His glory. So today, remember that your life is part of a divine purpose, and the work God desires is to believe in His Son. When you do, you’ll walk in a purpose far greater than anything you could ever imagine.
Have a beautiful day. 🖤
