Ecclesiastes 1:7 (ESV) says, “All streams run to the sea, but the sea is not full; to the place where the streams flow, there they flow again.” This verse offers a powerful image of how God’s purpose and love are endless. Just like streams continuously flow into the sea without ever filling it, we, too, can contribute to God’s greater plan without feeling like we are competing with others.
The sea symbolizes God’s infinite purpose, and each of us has a unique path that leads us to this larger mission. Even if other people are involved in similar work or share the same calling, we are not rivals; instead, we are co-labourers in the body of Christ, each playing an important role. Our contributions, though different, enhance the overall purpose of God’s kingdom.
In 1 Corinthians 12:12-27, Paul reminds us that the body of Christ is made up of many parts, each with its own function. Just as the hand and foot work together for the health of the body, we need to focus on our own callings while supporting each other in our journeys. By embracing our individual roles, we can contribute to God’s grand design without taking away from anyone else’s work.
Let us encourage one another as we follow our God-given paths. There’s no need to compete or compare ourselves to others. Instead, we should celebrate our differences and work together, recognising that every effort counts in advancing God’s kingdom. When we focus on our unique callings, we enrich the sea of God’s purpose, creating a thriving community that reflects His love and grace. In doing so, we show that together, we are stronger and more impactful in our mission to serve Him.
