Proverbs 18:22 tells us, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” This verse reminds us that a wife is a gift from God, and her presence brings favour into a man’s life. But let’s pause and ask: how does one find a wife?
Looking back to Genesis, we see that it wasn’t Adam who went searching for Eve, and Eve didn’t go looking for Adam. Rather, God presented Eve to Adam. This suggests that finding a wife doesn’t mean a man goes out desperately searching; instead, it is God who presents a good wife to a man who is in His presence and following His purpose. As James 1:17 reminds us, “Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father.” A wife, therefore, is a good thing that comes from God, a divine gift.
Men, be busy fulfilling your calling, working in the purpose God has set for you. When you are focused on your divine assignment, God will present to you a wife who is meant to be your helper, to walk with you in the journey He has prepared. As for the women, be in God’s presence, living your purpose. God will locate you and present you to the man He has destined for you, a man who will love you as Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25).
The problem many marriages face today is that people search for spouses by their own wisdom, often bypassing God’s plan. They may enter relationships that crumble because they are built outside the design God intended. A man without purpose cannot be helped—because what can a wife help him with if he is doing nothing? God created women to be helpers, but if the man is not engaged in any God-given work, the wife cannot fulfill her role. This imbalance leads to frustrations, and next, we hear complaints like, “She doesn’t respect me.”
As we move forward, let’s remember that the foundation of a good marriage begins with both partners being in God’s presence, fulfilling their purpose. When God presents a wife to a man, it is a union that brings honour and favour.
Have a blessed weekend and remember, God’s timing is perfect. For those attending kesha tonight, may it be a powerful time in His presence.
